Santa Barbara Courthouse Wedding Photographer + Video

All-inclusive elopement photography, videography, content Creation and planning.

Planning a Santa Barbara elopement or courthouse wedding? Welcome!!!

Unlike the manicured polish of Beverly Hills, a Santa Barbara Courthouse wedding offers a look that is inherently softer and more romantic. It captures the essence of "Old California", where Spanish Colonial architecture meets the salt air.
Choosing a Micro Wedding in Santa Barbara allows you to tell a complete, cinematic story without the logistical weight of a massive venue. Every corner of the grounds from the clock tower views to the sunken gardens, provides a diverse backdrop for your Santa Barbara Courthouse wedding photos.
As Santa Barbara elopement photographers, we focus on the natural, unscripted, and funny moments with a touch of creativity. The environment does the heavy lifting, allowing us to create documentary-style imagery that feels both historic and intimate. Whether you are planning a secret getaway or a small family gathering, as your Santa Barbara Courthouse wedding photographers, we help bridge the gap between a simple civil ceremony and a high-fashion editorial.

This is the classic courthouse elopement. Quick, legal, beautiful, and handled entirely by courthouse staff.

When: Monday through Friday, between 10 AM and 4:30 PM
Guest limit: Up to 10 guests
Officiant: County Clerk staff member. No outside officiant needed
Where: Inside the Hall of Records or outdoors in one of the courthouse gardens, outdoor locations are first come, first served, not reservable.
Cost: $104 for the ceremony + $100 for a standard marriage license, or $111 for a confidential license
Book here: countyofsb.org/605

Best for: Couples eloping just the two of you, or with a very small group who want a simple, seamless, legal ceremony.

The Two Ways to Get Married at Santa Barbara Courthouse

The Mural Room
Indoors, with soaring ceilings and floor-to-ceiling hand-painted murals. Historic, dramatic, and completely weather-proof. Seats up to 100 guests. Ideal for formal ceremonies or elegant micro-weddings. This room photographs like a European palace. Nothing else in Southern California looks like it.

The Sunken Gardens
The iconic outdoor location with lush grass, palm trees, and a sweeping staircase backdrop. Capacity for up to 100 guests. Best during spring and fall when the gardens are in full bloom. The grand staircase is one of the most photographed ceremony backdrops in California.

The Palm Terrace / Fiesta Stage
Smaller outdoor areas that offer privacy and charm. Perfect for weekday weddings or smaller groups. More intimate, less foot traffic, beautifully shaded.

Hall of Records Patio
Often used for civil ceremonies. Simple, shaded, and surrounded by Spanish Colonial architecture. Clean lines, stone arches, and dappled light — underrated as a portrait location.

The Ceremony Locations Inside the Courthouse

You rent a specific space on the courthouse grounds — or the legendary Mural Room — and bring your own officiant, your own music, and your own setup.

Guest capacity: Up to 100 guests depending on the space. More flexibility on timing, flow, and personal touches
Cost:
Mural Room: $600 for 2 hours
Gardens: $300–$400 for a half-day rental

Best for: Micro-weddings with 15–100 guests, couples who want personal vows, a specific setup, or more time on-site.

Pro tip: The Mural Room books extremely fast. If you have a dream date, reserve it at least 6–12 months in advance.

Option 1 : Civil Ceremony with a County Deputy Commissioner

Option 2 — Private Ceremony with Your Own Officiant

Lush gardens, wildflowers in bloom, mild temperatures, stunning for outdoor ceremonies

Summer: Beautiful weather but busier; book early
Winter: Quiet, moody, and romantic, easier to secure your preferred date

By Day of the Week

Weekends bring multiple wedding parties using the courthouse grounds for portraits, which reduces the intimacy of your experience.

  • Arrive 15 minutes early: staff start ceremonies on time and the building requires a security check
  • Avoid Fridays: the busiest day of the week at the courthouse
  • Bring touch-up essentials: lip balm, powder, a small fan in summer; the gardens can get warm midday
  • Parking: Paid lot directly across the street on Anacapa; metered street parking also available nearby
  • The address: 1100 Anacapa Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93101 — the building covers a full city block between Anacapa St. and Santa Barbara St.
  • Civil ceremony witness: Bring one, or the courthouse provides one, either way, it's handled
  • For the Mural Room: wear something with color, the murals are bold and vivid, and you want to stand out, not disappear into them

After the Ceremony: Where to Eat & Celebrate

  • Brophy Bros — Best seafood in Santa Barbara, harbor views, unbeatable for a wedding lunch
  • Convivo — Elegant Italian, romantic ambiance, great for a private dinner
  • Santo Mezcal — Vibrant, festive energy and outstanding Mexican cuisine
  • Villa Wine Bar & Kitchen — Intimate, candlelit, perfect for two
  • Los Agaves — Local favorite, incredible flavors, lively atmosphere
  • Mesa Verde — Farm-to-table, fresh, and beautifully plated

Things to Do in Beverly Hills for Creative Elopements & Non-Traditional Weddings

  • First look at a train station: Santa Barbara Amtrak Station - Spanish style arches, tiled floors, open platforms.
  • Write Your Vows at Santa Barbara Central Library: Write your vows in the Faulkner Gallery or among the secluded mezzanine stacks.
  • Unity Canvas Painting: Instead of a unity candle, paint a canvas together during the ceremony. No art skills needed — that's the point. We capture the process and the final piece. You leave with something you made together on the day you got married
  • Play pool in formal outfits at The James Joyce: Irish pub atmosphere, dark wood, tight corners.
  • Share fries under the tree: Moreton Bay Fig Tree
  • First dance in front of Santa Barbara Museum of Art: Clean facade, urban feel, controlled space. Works well at dusk with soft street light.
  • Run with a kite at Butterfly Beach: Run along the shoreline with a custom kite featuring your names or a favorite engagement photo catching the wind. We provide kite with your name starting at $30 and with your photo starting at $40.
  • Trash the dress in the ocean: Arroyo Burro Beach County Park - Walk fully into the water in your wedding outfit. We provide trash the dress options in different styles starting at $60.
  • Paper airplane contest: Santa Barbara County Courthouse
  • Hidden Spots & Custom Ideas: We have a curated list of hidden Beverly Hills locations and off-beat elopement ideas that aren't on any guide. Call us or book a free video consultation to access the full list and plan something completely your own.
